First Reading WSSDA Recommended Policy Updates

Roughly Quarterly WSSDA Policy Services proposes updates to board policy based on changes to the law.   These recommendations are discussed in their publication Policy and legal News. Attached are a number of policy updates modified from the WSSDA recommendation. 

Policy 1210 Annual Organizational Meeting, Election of Officers Changes reflect the district practice on the timing of election of the WSSDA legislative representative.  Prior policy was that that position was elected in the summer.  Practice is that the board elects this position in December.

Policy 1220 Board Officers and Duties of Board Members Changes reflect the changes to policy 1210

Policy 2024 Online Learning Changes reflect changes to state regulations and reorganization of responsibilities within the school district.

Policy 2255 Alternative Learning Experience Programs Changes reflect changes to state regulations and reorganization of responsibilities within the school district.

Policy 6700 Nutrition, Health, and Physical Fitness Changes are significant and based on federal regulation changes.   The proposed policy is modified from the WSSDA recommendation.  The WSSDA Recommendation calls for a Wellness Committee.  The regulations require a wellness plan with public input.   The policy recommendation reflects the regulations rather than WSSDA's solution.  Because of the massive changes you have also been provided with a blackline version of the policy.

Additionally, two Procedures are attached.  These do not require board action but are presented for board information.
