History

The PIT program began in the 2010-2011 school year. Students from local high schools in Southwest Washington participate in the program. They gain experience in a variety of settings from completing household chores, yard work, as well as gaining community job placements in local businesses. They acquire independent cooking skills which includes planning, purchasing, and preparing meals. Learning stations are set up for functional academics and computer applications within the home environment.

Activities

Students navigate within the community learning about local businesses and services. They access the local library, shopping establishments, eateries as well as learning about job opportunities and adult services.

Students are introduced to jobs on and off campus to gain critical work experience. They have created their own auto detailing business providing school district employees the opportunity to have their cars detailed using the proceeds towards paying for their leisure activities. Community business work experience is acquired with a job coach until the student can be independently successful.

Students participate in a variety of recreational activities to assist in a lifelong active lifestyle. Our students access a local crossfit gym, participate in outside sporting and leisure activities, such as bowling, cornhole and walking to encourage an active lifestyle.
