At Woodland Public Schools, we are committed to providing our students with innovative digital tools while maintaining the highest standards of data privacy and security.

As part of our use of Google Workspace for Education, students have access to "Core Services" (like Classroom, Docs, and Drive) which are strictly protected. However, to enhance our curriculum in Social Studies, World Languages, and Science, we also utilize a few Additional Services that require explicit parental "Opt-In" consent.

What are Additional Services?

While Google’s Core Services are governed by a strict Student Privacy Pledge, "Additional Services" are consumer-grade tools that can be used for educational purposes. These include:

  • Google Translate: Supporting our world language curriculum and English Language Learners.
  • Google Maps: Used for geography and local community mapping projects.
  • Google Earth: Enabling 3D simulations and virtual field trips around the globe.

While Google does not serve personalized ads to K-12 students, these services may collect data to "improve the product" in ways the Core services do not.

Why is Consent Required?

Due to recent updates in student privacy laws and Google’s terms of service, we must have a signed consent form on file for your student to access these three specific tools using their school-issued account.
