RE:                 WPS MONTHLY UPDATE

All staff at our school were "treated" to some terrific recognition the week of May 7-11.

Grace Community Church made us lunch one day, former parent Sherry Mckernen spent a day providing chair massages!  What was neat about each activity was that ALL staff were included, and citizens of our community offered to recognize us all!  We thank them all!

Of course, our 3rd graders also participated in their first MSP experience in May.

Lots of strong efforts all the way around -any success experienced on this is a result of our WHOLE staff team, and parent support/collaboration!

This past month also provided several "Special Events" around our school.

Field Trips were taken to the Oregon Zoo (KG), OMSI (2nd Grade), and Franz Bakery (3rd Grade).  For the past several years, our First Grade has connected with a "Whale Expert" from the Oregon Coast.  Fondly called the "Whale Guy,"  Mr. John Ford spent almost three days on our campus sharing artifacts, pictures and "Whale Tails!"

Mr. Ford also conducted an evening assembly for first graders and their families!

This was a quality opportunity for our first graders to experience "hands on" learning during their study of the seas!

Another outstanding event at WPS, made possible by the active involvement of our PTSA, was a visit from the Pacific Science out of Seattle.  They brought their "Space Odyssey" Van to our campus - and it was an "Interstellar" success!  Students were treated to active experiences in one of two blow up "Solar Systems," had instructors come teach classes in their rooms, and were able to visit other displays set up in our Mezzanine.

As we transition into June, our teams are putting final touches on forming classes for next year, and putting student data together for the end of the year.

Of course, as this all happens..........our staff teams continue to focus on solid, day in , day out instruction - one of the miracles of this time of year!
