RE: Woodland High School Board Report

1) School Improvement Plan

First, by way of update, our on-track number for semester one of the 9th grade was strong but not on par with our goal. Typically, the state averages about 70% of 9th grade students who are on track.WHS hovers at about that average or slightly below. Our semester one rate was 83.3%. This is strong compared to state averages but not where we want to be. This semester we are funding two 9th grade success workshops out of the building budget because those have shown to be one of the most effective tools.

Second, one of our SIP goals is to increase enrollment in our dual credit classes. To that end, the Beaver Broadcast team put together a number of videos describing our dual credit options to students as they prepare to forecast for next year’s classes. If you’d like to, you can view those videos by accessing this document: Dual Credit Course Videos

2)  Recognition

Passing the levy was the work of many people, but I wanted to take a moment to recognize one particular WHS employee who played an enormous role in rallying the teachers to the cause. Anne Pershall began serving as the local WEA president in the past few months and did a fantastic job getting teachers organized for action. The WEA-sponsored walk and talk that I went to was a wonderful event. Lots of people showed up, including a bunch of teachers. I have always valued the relationship WSD has had with the WEA. I am sure that will continue with Anne serving as president.

3) Upcoming Events

Student Led Conferences will occur the week of March 26th. Regular season spring sports contests start the week of March 17th. The Night of the Arts has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 21st.
