WORKSHOP
This month’s workshop provided the school board directors with a unique opportunity to engage in a linkage roundtable with staff members. Participating staff members represented one of four different groups; Union Leaders, Certificated Teachers, Special Programs, and Support Staff.
Superintendent Green started by providing a brief overview of how the evening would go and then explained the different responsibilities that are handled by the school board. These are: 1) being advocates for kids and the voice of the community, 2) establishing and monitor goals, 3) establishing policies, 4) establishing and approving the budget, 5) adoption of curriculum, and consideration of employment, and 6) hiring, evaluating, and supervising the superintendent
At the end of the roundtable discussions, the board directors reconvened as a group to share what they had heard in the conversations. Some of the highlighted topics were social media and review of the district policy, staff training on district policies, student attendance, behavior management, paraeducator training and professional development, prep time for classified staff, and student access to buildings. The school board and district administration are excited to use the feedback received.
