RE: Tech Dept. Executive Summary

We’re in the process of tightening our security with Google, and as part of that, we’ve enforced that any mobile device with our District account must have a locking screen with an adequate PIN. It was a little daunting switching that on, but it has gone very smoothly for the most part, and people certainly understood the need. We have over 150 secured devices now, we had to intervene and help in perhaps a dozen or so cases, and we’ve had some staff decide to remove their work email from their cell phones.

We’re in the midst of planning for our summer. There’ll be some wireless network upgrades in the high, intermediate and Yale schools, and more Chromebooks for WIS and WHS. More upgrades to staff computers, some in our student CTE labs, and a little of our virtual server cluster. And as much updating of both client and server software as we have time for, as well as all the small changes that staff request for next year.

I’m very grateful that again this year we’ll be able to take on some temporary help within the department. The amount of work is generally pretty overwhelming when we factor in the “back to school” crunch in August and having to put rooms back together after they’ve been cleaned, and our team wants the chance to take some vacation as well, so the extra help makes all this possible.
