Re: April Review
Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month and a bit of a preview for May.
Monday’s: We only had four Monday’s in April for staff development time. We split two Monday’s between department collaboration time and school improvement planning. Monday April 8th was set aside as a “staff directed” Monday per our negotiated contract. And the final Monday was a non- school day but, we did use it for an optional staff development day and we had about 10 staff members hear a very good presentation on Skyward online assessments and differentiating instruction.
Other information: The high school drama group had 3 wonderful performances of their play “Tom Jones” at the end of the month. Mikalya Ewert was the first student in 13 years to win the prestigious Washington Scholars Award from the state of Washington. Unfortunately, there no longer is the full ride to a 4-year state college attached to winning this award. Also, we are extremely proud to again be the recipient of the Washington Achievement award for Overall Excellence and extended graduation rate. I am very proud of our staff and all the excellent work they put in to help our students succeed. Although we were not able to attend the awards ceremony in the Seattle area at the end of April, we still plan to hold an assembly next week to honor our students for their efforts as well.
May Preview: Be sure to mark your calendar for the Art fest (May 20-23), Hot Chili Cool Jazz (May 31), Beaver Booster’s auction and Spaghetti Feed (May 18th), Band/Choir Spring choir (May 21st). There is many opportunities to participate in the school events this month.
