Kim Sutton Math Training:

Mr. Niekamp, Mrs. Knudson and I took an opportunity to go to a training given by math guru Kim Sutton on January 31st. We found the training very practical and helpful, and we learned something none of us has heard of before- the value of teaching digital root, beginning in Kindergarten and building on the concept through 6th grade. To summarize, the digital root is the sum of a numbers digits, and it is a powerful tool for children to use in checking their math calculations.  If they compare the digital root of the parts in the equation to the solution it should match. See example below then try it with another problem.  It works!

 13       digital root of 13 is 1+3= 4

+14       digital root of 14 is 1+4= 5

(The sum of 4 and 5 is 9)

27        digital root of 27 is 2+7= 9

Our Yale PTO is busy planning many upcoming events. They are all very excited to hear that a new gym is proposed in the upcoming bond measure.
