Policy 4200 - Parent Access and Safe and Orderly Learning Environment
WSSDA has revised, re-named, and re-categorized Model Policy 4200–Parent Access and Safe and Orderly Learning Environment. Formerly Policy 4200 was a discretionary policy titled “Safe and Orderly Learning Environment” (Which the WPS board had not adopted). This is now an Essential Policy. The revisions incorporate specific language from RCW 28A.605.020 that assures parents access to their child’s classroom and school-sponsored activities for purposes of observing class procedure, teaching material, and class conduct. However, the revisions also stipulate that such observation must not disrupt the classroom or learn- ing activity. We wanted to include this express statutory language in the model policy, both to assure parents and comply with the statute.
