ELL/State Transitional Bilingual Intervention Program and Translation Services

  • Elementary: Beginning this month K-4 students will begin receiving ELL services under the direct supervision of our ELL Director and Assistant Principal, Darcy Soto. We will provide direct services to our students with the highest language proficiency needs with an asset-based approach and adaptive curriculum, and work with K-4 teachers to build their capacity to serve ELL students in the classroom with scaffolds and instructional supports.
  • Middle School: The WMS ELL department teacher, Pam Dietrich, monitors grades/missing assignments and communicates with our Spanish Speaking families via email, home visits, phone calls, and Language Link weekly to make connections and inform families. Currently, they are in the planning phase of the WMS ELL Trojan Homework Club 2021-22. We are excited to offer this to our ELL students in 2022!
  • High school: At the high school, staff completed all our WIDA training and finished giving the screener to our new 11 multilingual students. In the intermediate and advanced classes, students completed a five-paragraph essay based on their opinion of a movie. They practiced using sequencing words and searching for synonyms to spice up their writing!
  • District Level: This month we welcomed 33 new students into the ELL program based on the WIDA screeners. The score reports and notification letters are being sent out to families. Also, the ELL Outreach Coordinator has been working closely with the Family Resource Center to ensure that our families in need have access to all the necessities for school. With conferences on the horizon, we have been reaching out to our multilingual families and scheduling their meetings. We look forward to some amazing and fruitful connections with families!
