Re: WMS October 2021 Board Report
The following are the key happenings at Woodland Middle School:
Fall Conferences
We will host our fall conferences from October 26th-28th. Our late night will be October 26th. We will use a virtual conference format where families will meet with homeroom teachers via Google Meets. Staff will communicate key items with parents/guardians along with their child’s current progress.
Coffee and Conversation
We recently hosted our annual Title I parent meeting remotely. Our Instructional Coach Tara Eilts presented our Title plan and reading infrastructure to parents. We gave out coffee cards since we could not host our normal breakfast conversation this year.
Veteran’s Day Video
Woodland Middle School will once again honor our Veteran’s via video this year due to Covid restrictions. Students have been invited to share pictures and information about their relatives for inclusion in our Veteran’s Day video. This is a positive opportunity to recognize our heroes from multiple generations and branches of service.
PTSA Non-Fundraiser
Our PTSA is hosting a “no more fundraisers” fundraiser. This is an opportunity for parents to contribute to the PTSA without having to sell or host a walk-a-thon in this climate. Flyers were sent home to families and contributions are due to the school by November 5th. We are thankful for the PTSA and all they do for WMS.
Staff Development Days November 1-2
We will have focused training on “Step Up to Writing” and the “10-minute Inservice” tied to Todd Whitaker’s work. There will be team-building opportunities and staff will be collaborating in professional learning teams during a portion of our PD days. Some items of focus will be formative assessments, alignment, vertical teaming, and articulation of student learning goals.
