Re: May 2021 Board Report

ELL/State Transitional Bilingual Intervention Program and Translation Services

  • Elementary Schools: We are finishing up the ELPA21 summative assessment for our K-4 ELL students. Our teams of test administrators and supporting staff at both schools worked together on this effort to complete about 90% of our testing in the first two weeks of the testing window. We expect to have all testing completed for elementary students by May 15th.
  • Secondary Schools: All of the students at Woodland High School and TEAM high have completed the ELPA21. It was quite a feat during these unprecedented times and various schedules, but we managed to make sure they completed it. This is important for the district because it's a great way to track the student's progress and if the students are successful on the test they can exit out of the ELL program.
  • Thanks to the efforts of a high school senior, the announcements at the high school are now in English and Spanish. She mentioned to Dr. Pearson during her exit interview that it would be helpful to have announcements in Spanish so they can be more accessible to all students. Dr. Pearson and Mrs. Propersi, the ELL teacher, enlisted the help of two students who volunteered to do the announcements in Spanish on alternating days. This is one of the many ways that we are working to make our schools a more inclusive environment for our multilingual students.
