Re: WMS May 2021 Board Report
The following are the key happenings at Woodland Middle School:
FULL-TIME STUDENTS
We have successfully completed our first week of bringing all students back. This was a unique endeavor considering all of the social distancing. We doubled our lunches to offer four lunches per day and are using the library as an auxiliary lunchroom to keep distancing. Students seem to be adjusting but many still look tired upon arrival. We are excited to close out the year in a positive manner.
IREADY ASSESSMENTS
We are beginning our iReady assessments this week in English Language Arts and next week in Math. We plan to use these results to assist with student placement in classes for the next school year. Additionally, we believe this will be one more tool to communicate with parents regarding their child’s progress.
YEARBOOKS
WMS will have a streamlined yearbook this year due to not having all of our “normal events” and opportunities. We will be providing a free yearbook to all students in June rather than charge the normal fees.
TEACHER APPRECIATION
This week is teacher appreciation. We salute our staff. We are thankful for both our families and community members who have worked to make this a great week for staff. Our PTSA sponsored a luncheon with local businesses on Wednesday and we also had a kind family sponsor a coffee cart for all staff to get a drink on Friday.
SPORTS
We are wrapping up our basketball seasons this week. It has been strange to go to games where we are playing against each other due to limited competition. However, it has still been nice to see students out there having fun. Our girls’ teams actually went into overtime against each other last week and we had a game winning shot from one of our seventh graders. Track and field and wrestling begin on May 10th and we look forward to seeing even more students involved.
