Re: WHS Report

Athletics
Baseball, Fastpitch, Girl's Golf, and Boy's Soccer all advanced into the postseason. Yesterday the girl's golf team won first in district and the boy's soccer team played well but ultimately fell short in the district quarter finals. Basketball and wrestling have started practices.
COVID Response
This week five WHS students tested positive for COVID. These positive cases have led to approximately 65 students being quarantined. Because we have retained a robust online option, those students will be able to participate in school more or less normally (albeit virtually) during their period of quarantine. A significant number of students who have not been specifically quarantined have chosen out of caution to return to virtual learning for the time being. Unfortunately, these quarantines have adversely impacted athletics this week.
Graduation Planning
Planning for the commencement ceremony is well underway. We are planning an outdoor ceremony in our stadium for June 11th. An outdoor ceremony will allow us to have 6 guests per senior. Because of this advantage, the ceremony will be held outdoors barring dangerous outdoor conditions. That decision will be made on Wednesday, June 9th. If the ceremony is forced indoors, it will be held in the gym and seniors will only be allowed to have one guest. In all cases, the ceremony will be simulcast for wider viewing. As a special treat to this year's seniors, there will be a fireworks display following the ceremony in the field on the west side of the stadium. The fireworks necessitate a late start to the ceremony, but we think it will be worth staying up for. Matt Peterson has generously allowed us to use his field for the show and one community business has partially underwritten the cost. Information will begin to flow out to parents early next week.
