Re: CTE

Here is a glimpse into what’s happening in the CTE programs at WMS and WHS:

The Middle School Horticulture class took a load of fresh organic vegetables to the food bank. The delivery totaled 388 pounds, which means they have exceeded two tons in donations for the year.

Holland America has also donated 1000 tulip and daffodil bulbs to the program. The goal is to line the new sidewalk at the middle school with these bulbs. We will be spending the next month upgrading the hydroponics so we can continue to send fresh vegetables to the food bank year around.

In Wayne Miller’s classes, the automotive maintenance students have been learning about tools, safety, and general automotive items. They are just starting to learn about engine parts and operation, eventually leading to disassembly and assembly of an engine. The advanced automotive students are beginning to work on a transmission removal and checkout.

The beginning metals students have been learning how to ARC weld and are starting to learn about gas heating, cutting, and brazing. The advanced metal students have been working on projects for the school, putting wheels on tables for the library, fixing a metal wind spinner for a teacher, and working on our rat rod.

Rose Ruff’s FBLA students held an informational meeting to recruit new members this year. Many seem interested in the club and we are hopeful that our membership numbers will increase from last year. In Marketing, the Student Store Custom Apparel Business has once again designed, and are currently selling, Spirit Week T-Shirts for $5 each. The main goal is to increase student involvement in Homecoming Week and increase school spirit and positive school culture. This year, Rose is offering a new course - Career Choices. In this course, students will be able to explore different career opportunities. We will be bringing in guest speakers and/or bringing students out to different facilities to gain real world experiences. We hope to build this class up to a point where we can offer internships and job shadows.

Nalean Warndahl’s HOSA just elected new officers and are planning monthly service projects and deciding which HOSA events each student wants to participate in.
