WORKSHOP
Legislative Priorities
Director Steve Madsen reviewed the 2018 Legislative Assembly Listing of Proposals and Positions with the school board members and administrative team. A few of the topics discussed as possible priorities were the Mitigation of Regionalization Formula Inequities, State Funding for Law Enforcement School Resource Officers, Statewide Salary Schedule, Alternative Assessments for High School Graduation Requirements and Accountability, Expanding Access to and Equitable Funding for all Dual Credit Options, Streamlining Reporting, and Remote and Necessary Schools. Steve Madsen asked the members to each email him a list of their top five priority topics that he will take with him to the 2018 Legislative Assembly on September 21st in Spokane, Washington.
Goal Update
The school board adopted performance goals a year ago. Michael Green presented the results thus far. Hard work has shown achievements in many of the goal areas, but there are still challenges to overcome to meet these performance goals. Further data will be released in December and will be presented at a work session following that.
Work Session Calendar
At the August 27th board meeting, the directors compiled a list of topics for upcoming 2018-19 work sessions. A draft calendar was created and presented for review. Director Stuart suggested that a staff panel be present for the teaching and learning workshop in October. Also, it was decided to move the February and March workshops up one month and hold the Parent/Community Roundtable in March.
ADJOURNMENT
President Watts adjourned at 7:19 p.m.
