RE: Woodland Intermediate Report

Except for a few hiccups in staffing, we have had a strong start to the 18 - 19 school year.

  • Open House on August 27th was well attended by students and families. Teachers were ready and eager to meet their students and reported that they had very few students that didn’t attend.
  • This school year one third of our teaching staff at WIS is new, and 7 of those teachers are brand new to teaching. Getting everyone on board has been a team effort. We have an amazing team of mentor teachers and our instructional coach, Mrs. Huddleston, that have been supporting our new teachers. I am impressed with how grade level teams have come together and have been encouraging each other. I have had many of the new teachers comment how supported and welcomed they feel at Woodland.
  • On September 13 we had our first “Coffee and Conversations” of the year. Asha and I were joined by about a dozen parents and guardians, new to the district and returning. The two topics that dominated the conversations were parking lot safety and next year’s reconfiguration. Asha was able to provide the history of past decision making and reasons for reconfiguring. Parents were understanding and asking for communication throughout the decision making. We are working on improving our parent pick up lane and parking lot safety.
