Re:                         WPS Monthly Update

School Improvement Action Plan Update

The WPS Building Leadership Team has met three times to revise our School Improvement Plan. The work is now complete. Changes in the plan were made to reflect current state math, reading and writing goals. Those goals are revised by OSPI every two years. The team also revised the Professional Development Plan, and the Parent Involvement Plan. Team members include Malinda Huddleston, Jen Barry, Liz Landrigan, Marilyn Paul, Judy Byrne, Nikki Hill, Stacia Aschoff, Louise Chambers and Teri Schlenz.

GLAD Cohort Meetings

WPS has two groups of teachers who are being trained and implementing the Guided Language Acquisition Design. The two groups got together for an afternoon training in early December. GLAD is three year commitment on the part of teachers to learn and use classroom strategies that improve student learning. Teachers involved are Stacia Aschoff, Melissa Sanders, Louise Chambers, Katrina Mulder, Melissa Wager, Sandi George, Nikki Hill, and Susi Pit-Garland. This will be an ongoing commitment for those teachers.

End of First Trimester Marking Period

December 2 was the end of the first marking period at WPS. We have three marking periods, as opposed to the four used at the other schools. Report cards are being printed and will be sent home this Thursday and Friday.

Holiday Concerts

Preparations are moving forward on next Monday's Holiday Concerts. Janet Thrall has been a wonderful volunteer of her time in creating a festive atmosphere. There will be two concerts on December 16 during the school day, at 10:15 and 2:00. The students are getting very excited. They'll be dressed in green and red to celebrate the season. Also thanks to the Thralls for building and painting the classiest lost and found cart in the state of Washington.
