Re: October Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Monday’s and October 10th and 11th: We used our Monday’s for department collaboration time as well as department leader training.  We have set goals in each department and are finding our Monday work to be very useful.  For example, the social studies department is doing a book study on a professional book regarding teaching without textbooks. The English department is analyzing student work and reworking their thoughts on grading and making sure that grades are more aligned to their standards. The math department has scored student work together and also setting up collaborative goals. This is just a few examples or how we are spending our Monday time together.  As for October 10th and 11th, the teaching staff used these days to work on our school improvement plan as well as doing a self-assessment which is a requirement for our accreditation process (and the school improvement protocol as well).  It really has been nice to spend some quality connected time to work together regarding the overall mission of our school.

Other information:  Homecoming was another successful week at the high school.  A special thanks to Mr. Uhlenkott, Mrs. Ruff and Mr. Woodward for all of their organizational work in making this a fun and safe event for our staff and students. Also, our first edition of the new school newspaper came out this month.  The paper is an excellent representation of our student’s abilities to write and put together a professional looking newspaper.  Mrs. Rose Ruff is our advisor, and I applaud her efforts.  I hope you had an opportunity to see an edition as it was very impressive.  I also wanted to give a shout out to all of our staff and students for all of their work in organizing “Make a Difference” day.  Mrs. Sturdivan was instrumental in making this day possible. We had about 65 students of all ages participating on Saturday, October 22nd to help make Woodland a better place to live and work.

All is all it was a good productive month at Woodland High School.
