Re: Teaching and Learning

Teaching and Learning:

Prior to the start of our school year, we hosted a math workshop for all K-12 teachers of mathematics. Our goal was to develop a common understanding of researched based best math practices among all math teachers.

Staff learned about the principles to action strategies you will find attached. We plan to host a third day of learning in September and then Heidi Rhodes will be working with building principals on specific plans for implementing these principals to actions with each staff group.

New Educator Training Week:

During the week of August 15-19, we hosted all our newly hired certificated teachers for a week-long induction to Woodland Public Schools.

Our two objectives for the week were to ensure our new hires felt welcomed and prepared to start the school year successfully. Each department leader and the program had an opportunity to introduce themselves to staff and provide them with entry information that would help them feel ready for the first weeks of school.

At the end of the week, I collected survey results to see how well we met our objectives. Please see the attached results and comments.

Assessment Update:

Attached are the results from the 2015-16 school year state testing. I will be reviewing these with the school board at our September 12th board meeting.
