Re: Yale Elementary Report

This year we are starting Yale with some changes in our classrooms. First, we officially welcomed Leanne Tevlin to her first teaching assignment in our 2-5 classroom. Leanne served Yale last year as a long-term sub in our K-2 classroom and in our LAP position during the latter part of the year. She did an excellent job and we are thrilled to have her on board as an official member of the Yale teaching team.

Mr. Niekamp slid over into the LAP position and will also be providing reading and math instruction to our second-grade students. He is enthusiastic about his new position after spending several years in our 3-5 classroom.

Mrs. Cortez will continue to serve K-1 in our primary classroom.

This fall we opened Yale with an unusual makeup of class sizes –

Kindergarten   :           10

First Grade      :           8

Second Grade :           9

Third Grade     :           2

Fourth Grade  :           7

Fifth Grade      :           1

(All other fifth grader students decided this was a good time to transition to WMS with the rest of Woodland 5th graders).

Based on these numbers, we would have had a significant imbalance between our K-2 classroom and our 3-5 classroom.  In order to balance the rooms, we decided to move second grade over to Mrs. Tevlin's classroom.

This fall, I will be working with Ingrid Colvard to transition responsibility for the school to her leadership. We expect to start making visits to Yale in October to familiarize her with how the school operates and get to know staff and students.
