Re: WMS December 2015 Board Report
It is amazing to think we are at December 2015 at the new WMS! During this holiday season I am grateful to get to work with our dynamic, talented, hardworking WMS Staff. Every single day I get to witness WMS Staff taking the extra time, strength and energy to help all WMS Students. Here are a few highlights from November 2015:
Awesome, Loved and Full of Potential
One of the themes we have is that each WMS Student understands they are Awesome, Loved and Full of Potential. We promote this at all-school assemblies, we say it in the hallways and at lunch, and we show it each day in a multitude of different ways from being prepared to teach to keeping short accounts with families. I added this explanation of our theme in our December Newsletter and encouraged any family to communicate with us about how we can set up their student(s) for a great education and experience at Woodland Middle School.
Food Drive
All WMS Homeroom classes recently participated in a Food Drive. We had 1000s of items donated from the WMS Community. WMS Leadership students organized the drive and sorted all the food items to be collected by the Woodland Fire Department.
Climbing Wall
Superintendent Green explained to me that we have a generous amount of support for WMS playground equipment. We have decided the best use of these resources would be to install a horizontal climbing wall in the Yellow Gym (formerly known as the the MS Gym). We have found a Climbing Wall by the same company of the WIS Climbing Wall along with accessories for use in WMS Health & Fitness (PE) courses for $15,078.87.
Collaboration and Goal Setting
We are moving forward with our Collaboration with a specific emphasis on Goal Setting. Each of the nine cohorts are working on goals together in collaboration. The cohort and individual goals align with and support our school goal: By June 10, 2016, using 2015 Smarter Balanced Assessment scores as a baseline, at least 20% more WMS students will achieve proficiency or better on each of the Smarter Balanced Assessments. Getting Out the Great News Social media is a great way for families, staff, administration and anyone in the community to see what’s going on at the new WMS.
