Here are the CTE highlights from the past month.
Mary Ellen Vetter’s FFA Program ran Make a Difference Day on October 24th and cleaned up Hoffman Plaza, and will plant flowers there in the spring. Mary Ellen and I attended a framework building workshop on October 15th with OSPI FFA Advisor, Rebecca Wallace (Agriculture frameworks are due this year). Mrs. Vetter is hosting a Floriculture Career Development event on Nov 7th.. 20 schools from across the state will be competing. Participants must know plant science knowledge, plant ID, sales, job interviewing skills, media sales, making displays, flower arranging skills. Events such as this take the learning from the classroom to the real world of work.
Our HOSA program led by Jennifer Cullison helped run “Scare Hunger” this Halloween and collected canned foods that were donated to the Woodland Action Center. They will once again be putting on the snowflake bazaar November 21st.
Kim Miller’s class will be catered the WQCC luncheon on November 4th in our commons. They will also be providing breakfast for the WAVA regional director meeting that will be held at WHS on November 13th. Her Skills USA club also took part in Make a Difference Day - teaming up with FFA for the outing.
Rose Ruff’s FBLA group just had their FBLA Fall Leadership Conference yesterday. Students were able to go to different workshops: What Competitions are Best for you?, The Ins and Outs of Internships, Improving Your Public Speaking, How to Impress Judges, FBLA 101, Nailing the Interview, Entrepreneurship Tips. They even got to listen to a keynote speaker, Kyle Nel, the Executive Director of Lowe's Innovation Labs.
Tim Brown’s Middle School Lego Robotics Team will be competing at Catlin Gable School on December 5th.
