Re: WMS November 2020 Board Report

The following are the key initiatives/items that are happening at Woodland Middle School:

  • Virtual Veteran’s Day
  • Fall Conferences
  • Art Online
  • Student Recognition
  • Title I Virtual Meeting

Virtual Veteran’s Day-

This is a great tribute to our Veterans.  You may recognize many of these names and pictures from the Woodland community.  The video was produced by Jeff Flanagan and our leadership class for Veterans Day since we couldn’t hold our annual assembly.  We salute our patriots!

Fall Conferences

We hosted our first ever “Virtual” fall conferences.  Parents signed up via Skyward and attended via Google Meets.  We had approximately 71% of families attend.  This was a positive opportunity to have conversations with homeroom teachers, look at grades, and troubleshoot issues.

Art Online

Our art teacher, Nicole Caulfield produced a virtual art show with our advanced art students this fall.  Notice the theme of "Smoke" is applicable to recent events.  Please take a look at these personalized works tied to what was happening in our community.

Student Recognition

Each teacher selects one student from each of their classes to be recognized as a student of the week.  They are recognized in class and get an online certificate.  Their names are compiled and we have a drawing for a $5 gift card from local business that is mailed home or picked up at the WMS office.  The goal is to recognize as many students as we can to keep students motivated, encouraged, and engaged in remote learning.  Students who are drawn for a reward each week are also listed in the Monthly Newsletter.  Here are some of the past winners of the drawing:

  • 5th Grade- Evan Martynowicz, Jill Lutzenberger, Hayden Chartier, Trevin Skube
  • 6th Grade- Logan Speranza, Kendall Reiners, Treyton Crumlich, Selah Hay
  • 7th Grade- Cameron Conditt, Jessica Barhitte, Mackenzie Kositinen, Kaitliyn Miller
  • 8th Grade- Austen Woody, Braden Davis, Logan Keller, Mariah Stover

The following is the number of students who have been recognized by a teacher from 10/12-11/6:

  • 5th Grade- 106 Students
  • 6th Grade- 98 Students
  • 7th Grade- 119 Students
  • 8th Grade- 126 Students

Title I Virtual Meeting

We hosted our annual Title I meeting virtually this year calling it Coffee and Conversations.  This was an opportunity to share our Title plan and answer questions for parents who have children in our reading intervention program.  We gave away coffee cards since we had to do this remotely.  Here is a link to the plan: Coffee & Conversation PPT
