RE: Columbia Elementary Board Report

  • Hybrid Learning:
    • Hybrid learning has been a HUGE success! What a wonderful system we have been able to provide students and staff while keeping them as safe as possible. Our families have been great and extremely supportive as we continue to meet the required guidelines. Our students have done a wonderful job keeping their masks on along with staying socially distanced. Staff members continue to go above and beyond as they help in any way they can. It has been a wonderful team effort and one that has gone extremely smooth. Seeing the excitement these students show and their willingness to learn has made this whole process worth it. The K-4 hybrid learning has definitely been the highlight of the year so far.
  • Veterans Day Parade:
    • Due to the hard work from our K-4 Specialist team. CES and NFES had our first ever WPS K-4 Veterans Day parade. We had over 20 community members join this force where we went throughout Woodland celebrating our Veterans and their service. With the help from our community, we had old military vehicles, fire trucks, police, staff, and other community members present. We made a large loop throughout the town and the surrounding areas. The parade route consisted of both Columbia and North Fork boundaries.
  • Hiring:
    • CES is finalizing the hiring process of two recess supervisors and a DSP instructional assistant. Our applicants have been stellar and our new hires will be a great addition to the team.
  • CES/Community Partnership:
    • CES has been working with multiple businesses around the Woodland community as we continue to build our Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program. Over 20 local businesses have donated to help build this program. Our PBIS program is a school wide program that focuses on highlighting positive behaviors and building wide expectations. Currently, we have included this recognition system for our staff as well as students. I can not thank our community enough for their continued partnership and willingness to support the staff and students of CES.
  • Instructional Focus:
    • Intervention groups are up and running. Students are receiving intervention groups and additional services both virtually and through face to face instruction. Most interventions are done remotely to assist with the lack of ability to mix cohorts of students.
