The following are the key happenings at Woodland Middle School:
TRACK AND FIELD
We had an outstanding turnout for this year’s track team. We have 119 Athletes compared to 86 athletes a year ago. Jeff Flanagan and his crew did an outstanding job recruiting and we are excited that over 1/3rd of our 7th and 8th graders get this opportunity.
FORECASTING
We are beginning next year’s forecasting with fifth graders on April 23rd and will follow in a few weeks with forecasting for our 6th-8th graders. Some of our new elective options for 7th and 8th grade include: Project Based Learning, Weights, Drama, Forensics, Science Olympics, Advanced Robotics, and Medical Careers. While some students will have a double dose of core classes in Math and ELA based on their achievement, many students will earn the opportunity to have extra electives in their schedule.
TALENT SHOW
Our annual talent show was a huge success with 15 different performers dancing, singing, tumbling, doing stand-up comedy, and even hosting a “Lost and Found” fashion show. The show’s performance was closed with our staff rock band led by lead singer Mr. Malinowski singing “Shut up and Dance with me.” The students sang along and enjoyed this fun and community building event.
STATE ASSESSMENTS
We have begun our state assessments and will be working on those until Mid-June. We have started with our English Language Arts which will be followed by Math and then Science. We are thankful for the new testing lab and the opportunity to provide a stronger testing environment.
Our Student of the Month award winners for March were:
5th- Elizabeth Martinez-Guzman, Cedar McCarty
6th- Pamela Bradley, Crystal McCulley
7th- Alannah Erickson, Grace Hay
8th- Jordan Wilkinson, Taylor Curnutt
