REPORTS TO THE BOARD

Woodland Intermediate School Report

To: Michael Green, Superintendent

From: Michael Green, Interim Principal

Date: April 19, 2018

Regarding:  Woodland Intermediate School Update

The biggest news from Woodland Intermediate School is the selection of a new principal for the 2018-2019 school year.  Denise Pearl will Join the district on July 2 and is preparing to hit the ground running.  Currently, there are several teaching positions open. We are growing from six sections of third-grade to nine sections of third-grade as the large bubble of second graders moves up next fall. In addition, a highly talented second-grade teacher, Becky Lee, is relocating to NW Washington, and we anticipate two additional resignations due to relocations.  It will be a busy hiring season. Denise will be joining us on April 30 for interviews of prospective teaching candidates.

One of the great challenges we have is space for our growing school population.  I am hopeful that the board will approve a request for an additional portable classroom at Woodland Intermediate School.  Should the board approve the portable, it will be located between the 17-18 portables and the playground.   Portables are never an ideal solution, but they are essential in the short-term if we are to offer a quality program for our growing student population.

SBAC Testing begins in the next few weeks, and all third and fourth-grade students will sit for the exam.
