Woodland School Board - Monthly Update

May 2011

The month of May was a race from the start to finish. As we approach the end of the school year each day seems to be more hectic than the one before.

MSP testing dominated the month of May. This year WIS administered 1351 MSP tests. Of those 1037 tests were conducted paper/pencil in grades 4 and 5. 314 tests were conducted online at grade 6. The logistics associated with scheduling tests and makeup's in our building was monumental this year. Facilitating two testing methods proved to be a challenge for us this year. I see this getting easier as we have now been through it once. As a whole testing could not have gone more smoothly. Every staff member in our building had a responsibility associated with MSP testing. I am very proud of our staff and students. Everyone gave their best effort.

Our three May Mondays were spent focusing on student placement. Student placements are always an important event during the end of the year. Aligning teaching styles with learning styles while maintaining balance and equity within each classroom is never an easy task. The WIS staff worked diligently to make this a reality. Our 6th grade team met with staff from WMS to share information about each student that they will be receiving next year. A few staff members and I also teamed with Mark Houk and the 3rd grade team to place and learn about 3rd grade students attending WIS next year.

WIS hosted a PTSA meeting on May 12th. This was an informational meeting designed to inform parents about the purpose of the PTSA. I developed a power point presentation for those in attendance. The group nominated a new PTSA Board. I look forward to this group partnering with us and doing great things.
