RE: Athletics Report

Woodland Middle School

Track ended their season by hosting a meet on June 2 at WHS. It was a great event and our kids competed well.

Our wrestling team was one of only 4 teams in SWW to wrestle at the middle school level. We had to do bi-weekly covid testing but the kids did great! Because there were only 4 teams, we saw the same teams four times but the kids were just happy to be wrestling and we had no positive covid cases. Their season ended June 1st when we hosted the final match of the season in the green gym on a 95 degree weather day – good times!

Woodland High School

Season 3 is winding down. Both boys and girls basketball are rebuilding this year and unless they win out their last two games, will not be making post-season. They will play in a round-robin along with the other two non-playoff teams in our league on Monday, June 7. We will be hosting the boys and our girls will be going to Columbia River.

Our wrestlers ended their season on Tuesday with the district championships at Tumwater.

Summer Activities

Summer practices officially begin June 14. Many of our programs are also planning summer youth camps after a year’s absence. We are still working out the details on that.

Coaching Changes

I’m excited to announce that Cameron Cox will be our new head girls’ soccer coach at WHS. Cameron brings a ton of experience and passion to our soccer program. He’s excited to get going!

After 3 years, as our head cheer coach, Rose Ruff has decided to step down. We will be interviewing for her replacement next week.
