COVID and Quarantining
Over the last 3 and half weeks, WHS staff have responded to 8 positive COVID test results reported within our student body. Those 8 cases resulted in 134 students being quarantined. Currently, 12 students are out and are expected to return by the end of the week. The entire staff worked quickly and flexibly with Kerri Six to mobilize our response over the past 3 weeks. Having a robust online option for our quarantined students turned out to be an invaluable asset. Last week, I sent a communication to the families of our seniors recommending that those students strongly consider participating in school virtually from June 1 onward in order to reduce the risk of missing graduation as the result of a quarantine event.
Graduation Planning
The graduation ceremony will occur on June 11th at 8 pm. The late start time was necessary in order to accommodate the fireworks show at the end. Seniors will be allowed 2 groups of 3 seats each, for a total of 6 guests. Family pods will be seated together in the stadium and on the field. Seating locations will be assigned by lottery and seniors will receive their tickets and seating locations during senior check out on June 10th. The ceremony will occur outdoors barring dangerous weather conditions. If we’re forced indoors, we will conduct graduation in the main gym and seniors will be limited to 2 guests each. The ceremony will be simulcast in all cases.
