The following are the key initiatives/items that are happening at Woodland Middle School:
Grants
Congratulations to Laura Greenbaum, Kye Duling, and Naomi Gnade. These 5th grade math teachers all received a $100 grant from the Lower Columbia School Retiree Association and Fibre Federal Credit Union to help increase achievement in the math classroom. The funds were used to purchase dice, shakers, and activities from Boxcars and One-Eyed Jacks discovered at the NW Math Conference earlier this year. Their goal is to work on new skills in a fun and age appropriate way.
PBIS Reward Day
We recently hosted our first quarter rewards day for students. We had 550 out of 720 students qualify for this fun event. Students were treated to a Hot Chocolate Bar with whipped cream, fudge topping, and sprinkles. They were then given the option to play board games, color, use electronics, and listen to music for the celebration. In order to participate in this rewards afternoon, students had to meet the following requirements:
VFW Recognition
Congratulations to seventh grader Stella Blum who won 1st place in the VFW's Patriot's Pen Essay Contest! Stella earned $75 for her first-place win in Woodland and has qualified to enter her essay in the district contest (competing with other local 1st place winners in Clark County). Local, state and national VFWs sponsor this essay contest which encourages students to reflect on what makes America great. They are hoping to build patriotism for our country and respect for those who serve to defend it. They offer the contest each year at the elementary, middle and high school levels. National winners at the high school level can win up to $30,000 in scholarship money. Way to go Stella. We are proud of you!
