Medical Science/Anatomy/Physiology and HOSA:
In Medical Science, we have just finished up all of the body systems and just finished making life-sized bodies with all of the organs colored and put into the correct spots.
Anatomy and physiology students are learning about how Geneticists use pedigrees to determine the likelihood of genetic abnormalities. We also just finished dissecting sheep hearts in order to see how our hearts work and how the blood flows through them. They also did a heart surgery case study lab. HOSA held its end of the year pizza party.
Auto/Welding and Marine:
Auto/Welding Club and Metals classes have been making giveaways out of metal and wood using the plasma, laser cutter/engraver, and 3D printer.
Automotive classes have been working on vehicles (removing engine and transmission or replacing rotors and brakes or fix chainsaws and lawn mowers).
Floral Design/Hort/FFA:
Angelica Gudmunson, Emma Gudmunson, and Victoria Merlin have earned their Greenhand Chapter Degrees and Elisabeth Patnode has earned her Chapter Degree and is eligible for and will be running for District 8 Officer on May 28.
The Annual FFA Plant Sale was held May 3 and 4 and was a great success. Students honed their customer service, cash register, and problem-solving skills while serving the community and supporting the FFA Chapter.
Five students were selected to attend FFA State Convention May 8-12. Victoria Merlin was selected to perform the National Anthem at Session 3, placed in the Top 10 and is eligible for the National Talent Competition; she also placed in the Top 25 in the Prepared Public Speaking Competition.
Angelica and Emma Gudmunson taught 200 elementary school children in small groups about the importance and function of bees in Agriculture as Ambassadors in the Little Farmers Student Expo.
Elisabeth and Katharine Patnode served as Delegates for the Woodland Chapter, discussing and voting on issues that will be presented to and voted on by the FFA State Board as well as selecting and voting on the six State Officers for 2019-2020.
Each member participated in multiple leadership workshops, as well as interacted with representatives from several colleges, universities, and trade schools.
Creative Chef/Early Childhood/SkillsUSA:
Culinary students are just starting cake decorating with Katelyn Paulson in the advanced section making a fondant wedding cake for display at Art Fest.
Early Childhood Ed students are in the middle of the birth unit. This week will be their last classroom session with their preschool students and Field Day will be May 22nd.
SkillsUSA is preparing for a free family movie night, Disney’s Lion King will be shown and concessions will be sold as a fundraiser for Nationals in Kentucky. State competition resulted in five medals being brought home.
We swept Restaurant Service with the following;
Gold - Katelyn Paulson
Silver- Brooke Schimmel
Bronze- Caleb Mouat
5th - Austin Huntsinger
6th, Miracle Nault
In Early Childhood, Camila Avelar earned the Silver and in Prepared Speech, Caleb Mouat earned the Gold.
Katelyn Paulson and Nansi Valenzuela were elected State Officers and will be attending Officer Training May 19-21 at Black Lake Camp in Olympia.
FBLA:
We had a great time in Bellevue! Not only were our students busy networking, participating in seminars/workshops, and competing, we also spent some time in Seattle exploring Pike Place Market and downtown shops.
Aaron Shaw, Dillon McGhee, and Aidan Brynes competed in Entrepreneurship (an impromptu event). The boys had to pre-test prior to attending State and needed a score that placed them in the top 15 in order to present to the judges at SBLC. They did very well, and placed 8th at State!
Top 4 in every event move on to Nationals, but if they are unable to attend, then those who placed 5th-10th could have the opportunity to compete at State. Fingers crossed!
Computer Applications - students are currently testing in Microsoft Word, and three have already passed the industry exam! Way to go!!
