RE: Monthly Report Woodland Primary School (Grades PreK-1)

Kindergarten Books Before Bedtime Evening:  Kindergarten students and their families attended the first annual WPS Books Before Bedtime event on the evening of April 25th. Children rotated between classrooms and stations throughout the school to engage in games, crafts, literacy activities, and even a bedtime snack! This event was popular, as students have been talking about it ever since. Kudos to the kindergarten team for developing this idea into such a successful experience. Enjoy this picture of one of our special kindergarteners enjoying the fun photograph opportunity.

Writing Update:  WPS students are engaged in the culmination of a year focused on writing. It is exciting to see how much children have developed in their ability to express themselves clearly in written form, and they are proud to be able to put into words all of their sophisticated thinking. They have experienced reading and producing narrative, informative, and opinion writing. Comparing the writing samples from the beginning of the year to those collected more recently makes evident the increased skill of these motivated young learners.

The Whale Guy:  The third week of April brought much excitement and enthusiasm as WPS first graders welcomed John Ford, known to Woodland children as The Whale Guy. This engaging marine biologist has been guest teaching Woodland students for more than 30 years. His passion and dedication to marine life and environments inspires students to engage in deep learning experiences and research. The week of learning included presentations by each first grader to guests about a topic of personal interest. These children applied their learning in an integrated manner through research, writing, reading, oral presentation, and artistic expression. It was a wonderful week of joyful scholarship!
