RE: Monthly Report Woodland Intermediate School (Grades 2-4)
K-4 Vision & Mission
Our vision is to create a K-4 system that inspires a passion for learning and guarantees that all our students learn and achieve at high levels.
Our mission is to provide a superior education by aligning our actions that model a relentless focus on learning with an unwavering belief that all students can learn and achieve at high levels.
The NEDShow
On April 12th and as part of our school-wide character education program, we brought the NED program to Woodland Intermediate. The program centers around a 45 minute assembly called The NED Show. NED is a loveable cartoon character whose name is an acronym for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. We love that NED is simple, relatable and kid-focused. After the assembly, teachers had access to an extensive collection of resources. The lesson plans, videos, and classroom activities centered upon the NED traits and easily integrated into our existing curriculum. For a period of 5 days following the NED assembly, you could see students practicing their yo yo tricks out in the “yo yo square” during recess. Yo Yos were a big part of the NED assembly.
Character Trait of the Month
Last month students were recognized at a special assembly for their exemplary display of Perseverance.
SBAC Testing
SBAC testing has been going well. Both 3rd and 4th have completed the English Language Arts portion. Starting Monday, May 9th, 3rd grade students will begin the Math portion of the annual summative assessment testing. We are so proud of the hard work and the hours students are spending to perform their best.
Becoming a Champion for Youth
On April 21st and again on May 4th, all beginning teachers throughout the district attended the “Becoming a Champion for Youth” workshop provided by Sarah Paul and Janice England. The workshop focused on how to build trauma sensitive classrooms. In addition to all the beginning teachers, some experienced teachers and paraprofessionals also attended the workshop.
