RE:      Monthly Report Woodland Intermediate School (Grades 2-4)

K-4 Vision & Mission

Our vision is to create a K-4 system that inspires a passion for learning and guarantees that all our students learn and achieve at high levels.

Our mission is to provide a superior education by aligning our actions that model a relentless focus on learning with an unwavering belief that all students can learn and achieve at high levels.

PLAYWORKS Update

It’s been a month since we implemented PLAYWORKS during recess.   The new routines, games, and problem solving strategies are beginning to have a positive impact.  Students are enjoying a new playground experience that is inclusive, positive, safe, and filled with empathy and respect.

Something worth celebrating... In just one month we have seen a 58% decrease in playground behavior incidents. We attribute the decrease fully to PLAYWORKS and the staff leading the efforts.  Recess is what it should be, FUN!  We are also seeing the positive impact the playground experience is having on the classroom environment.  An increase in collaboration and consistency among staff is another positive outcome from the implementation of PLAYWORKS.  We are incredibly thankful to PTSA for their partnership and financial support.  PTSA covered the cost of the training in its entirety.  We could not have done it without PTSA

GOLIATH

We couldn’t be more exciting about the new addition to Woodland Intermediate School.  It’s GOLIATH!

When you see the size of this playground structure and the variety of activities included, you will understand why it’s named Goliath! It is an impressive playground that offers 16 adventurous activities for up to 80 children. It will easily become the focal point of the school playground.

Starting sometime the week of April 11th, students will have the opportunity to climb all over Goliath for the first time.

A little about Goliath...

The first component we assume children will clamor for is the Dueling Criss-Cross Landslide. This slide offers a phenomenally exciting trip to the bottom with two twist and turn choices for kids to experience. In addition, the structure offers a Dual Velocity Slide and a Single Speedway Slide to explore.

Our students love to climb and it is a healthy and fun way for them to exercise arms, legs and all muscle groups. The Maxclimb High Quest is a wall with visual and textural appeal that our students will love to conquer. The Radius Chain Net and Side Stepper offer physically challenging and fun climbing experiences as well.

Character Trait of the Month

Last month students were recognized at a special assembly for their exemplary display of Integrity.  The character trait of the month for April is Perseverance.

Woodland Way Ambassadors

Last Friday, students were recognized at a special assembly for demonstrating the “Woodland Way”.  They were nominated by their teachers as models to their students for being safe, respectful, responsible, and problem solvers.  They received a special t-shirt that, when worn, identifies them as a leader, model, and mentor to their peers.  These ambassadors will engage in leadership opportunities to help make sure our school is always a wonderful place to learn, play, and grow.

SBAC Testing

Starting, Tuesday, April 12th, 3rd and 4th grade students will begin their annual summative assessment testing to determine students’ progress toward college and career readiness in English language arts/literacy and math. These consist of two parts: a computer adaptive test and a performance task. Testing is scheduled throughout the next six to eight weeks and will continue until the end of May.
