REPORTS TO THE BOARD

WPS Report

I have been so impressed with Woodland Primary School. The students and staff are great to work with and there is a great atmosphere. There is a climate of respect, where the learning and individual needs of students are consistently made a priority. The staff has been busy working on initiatives to ensure a rich, productive and highly engaged learning community. We are looking at renewing the report card so there is clarity about how students are performing on specific learning standards. It is important to remember that we no longer grade on a curve, comparing students against each other. Instead, students are given assessments to measure their learning on specific learning standards. We are also coordinating the report card with the Intermediate School, so there will be consistency between schools.

The leadership team is working on a Positive Behavioral Intervention System (PBIS). We are working on creating clear expectations in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria and playground. The goal is that all these areas will be positive spaces where students understand expectations and learn to positively manage their own behavior. Clarity around these expectations - teaching and reinforcing these positive expectations are important elements of a successful program.

We are busy balancing classes for next year, ensuring that each classroom will maximize opportunities to be a highly effective learning environment.

I appreciate all the hard work of the staff, and getting to know the students and parents has been a real privilege. It is an honor to serve Woodland Primary!

Go Little Beavers!
