RE Yale Monthly Update

A Focus on Reading: Recently the Yale PTO has partnered with us on a couple events to promote increased time spent reading after school. First, we held a book swap that was well attended. The second, Dr. Seuss Day in which the Lone Fir brought and served green eggs and ham to our students and each child went home with two free books from the PTO. These events are a kick off to a reading challenge for our students. Each grade level is working toward a goal for reading for specific amounts of time over the month of March. If each grade level meets their goal the PTO will provide an ice cream party for the students.

Food Drive: The students exceeded their goal of 200 canned goods by bringing in 315 canned goods. Therefore, not only did their teachers dye their hair (a rainbow of colors), both Randi Isselhardt and Becky Huesties joined the fun in celebration of the students contribution to the community.

US Bank Grant for Art: Thanks to Ronell Pietz for her continued search for grants to support our school. Recently our school was awarded a grant from US Bank for $250 to be used toward art supplies.

New Playground Equipment: While the playground built for us by Mr. Huffman continues to serve our students well the PTO is exploring ways to add to or replace it. At this time they are looking at grants and planning possible fund raisers. This will be a long term goal and I’ll keep you posted on upcoming events for fund raising.
