Re: WMS Board Report
The holiday season is in full swing at Woodland Middle School! Over the past month, we had an opportunity to honor the service of the Veterans in our community. We had a beautiful, well-attended Veteran's Day event that incorporated both the WMS and WHS Choir and Band students. It was capped off with a special surprise homecoming for an Active-Duty US Army Uncle of one of our WMS 8th graders that hasn't been home in 2.5 years. Thank you for the service of all of our Veterans.
Before Thanksgiving, our Trojans also participated in the Food Drive for the Woodland Action Center, we were able to collect 1160 lbs of food for the Action Center! Way to go, Trojans!
Our DSP students celebrated "Friendsgiving" the week after Thanksgiving. All of the students shopped for ingredients, decorated, cooked the meal, played fun games together, and shared the meal together. It was a fun event attended by Mr. Green, Mr. Hall, Dr. Evans, and Ms. Campbell!
Celebrating our academic success for the end of quarter one, we had 499 Trojans achieve their Honor Roll status of 3.00 or higher GPA, and 353 students achieve the Principal's Honor Roll of 3.50 or higher GPA. Keep up the great work Trojans!
We also wanted to recognize our local Woodland Walmart for supplying us with an overflow of extra supplies from their Back to School Season, we were able to outfit a number of our classrooms with needed art supplies, organizational supplies, pencil sharpeners, hand sanitizer, and more! Thank you to our local neighborhood Walmart for your support!
Our WMS HOPE Squad is on the way to reactivating this year. HOPE Squad has received nominations for around 20 students from our 5th-8th grade who will act as peer-to-peer counselors for Trojan students in need of counseling support. WMS counselors, Mr. Nelson and Ms. Foyt are looking forward to the first meeting with those students next week.
