RE: Columbia Elementary Board Report

Columbia Elementary Enrollment: 411 Students

Columbia's enrollment is over 400. Our enrollment remains fairly steady; however, we have received multiple new students over the last couple of weeks.

Dual Language Informational Family Night:

On December 6th, CES hosted its first ever Dual Language Parent Night, which was designed for parents who have students currently enrolled in the program. Parents had the opportunity to attend 4 sessions around the program.

The sessions were as follows:

  1. The Purpose/Why
  2. Life of a Dual Language Student
  3. Instructional Materials/Practices
  4. Questions and Answers

Bingo For Books was a success:

With roughly 200 people in attendance, "Bingo for Books" was a success. Although not everyone earned a bingo, every child left with a brand new book. Students had the opportunity to choose from either an English or Spanish book. After the event, I had multiple people express their appreciation for the event and the opportunity to attend such a "fun family night."

PBIS and School-Wide Initiatives

Students of Excellence:

Columbia has added an additional student recognition opportunity with our "Student of Excellence" signs. Student of excellence signs are yard signs that students receive for being amazing and showing examples of excellence here at Columbia. Students can then post the sign in their yard or window for as long as they desire. One student per grade will be recognized each month at our PBIS character traits assembly.

Job Corps:

Job Corp is in full swing. Second through fourth-grade students are applying for different jobs around the school. Kelly Leavens is hiring approximately 20 students a day. Student jobs consist of Office Runner, Hall Monitor, Kindergarten Helper, Recess Supervisor, Filing job, etc. Jobs were created by a variety of staff here at Columbia, including classroom teachers.

Hope Squad:

Hope Squad is starting next week. The purpose of Hope Squad is to improve school morale by involving students in event planning, decorating, and student engagement. Students initial efforts, in addition to anti-bullying lessons, will be planning a Kindness week for February and then a field day for the end of the year.

Important Upcoming Events:

Columbia will have our K-4 Winter Concert on December 15th from 5:30-7:30. The concert will be broken into a K-2 and a 3-4 section.
