Increasing Access to College Credits for High School Students

A primary focus of achieving the district vision is ensuring that each graduate is prepared for Career, Life, and College.  Evidence supports that high school graduates who have acquired college credits during their years in high school have higher levels of college matriculation and persistence.

At Woodland High School, we are looking for ways to increase student readiness for career and college. Recently we evaluated our current level of access to courses that prepare students for career and college and believe additional opportunities will enhance outcomes for students.  To that end, we are seeking board approval of an agreement with Arizona State University (ASU) to provide another college in the high school option at Woodland High School via a program called Arizona State University Prep. ASU Prep is an accredited online school where students can take college courses and earn college credit at a reduced rate.   WHS will begin piloting this program with a small group of students beginning in January 2021.

Asha Riley will be presenting. Attached is the presentation in pptx and pdf.

Administrative Recommendation /MOTION/ "I move that we authorize the superintendent to sign the proposed agreement with Arizona State University."
