Re: CTE

An important part of our CTE programs are the Career and Technical Student Organizations, or CTSOs.  This month I will address some of the activities in which our CTSO students have been engaged.

HOSA:

Hosa students are gearing up for state competitions in Spokane. They tested in their areas the first week of February.  We have been running the girls and boys basketball and wrestling concession stand (21 games or matches) to earn money so all 16 participants can go!

Skills/Auto Club:

Metals students are in the process of making decorative signs for the scholarship fund silent auction.

Auto students are making progress on the rat rod.

Auto club is preparing for the Skills USA auto maintenance competition.

Skills USA:

Early Childhood Education students competed on Wednesday, January 16, at Woodland High School, along with students from two other schools in the region. The contest included an interview (Mr. Shoup agreed to be the interviewer), a written test, reading to preschoolers and writing and teaching a lesson based on one of the seven curriculum areas.

Camila Avelar earned the Silver Medal, Cody Yoder was just out of the medals with 4th place, and Gwen Treasure placed 6th out of 12.

Culinary students competed on January 19 in Restaurant Service here at Woodland and January 25 in Culinary and Baking at Clark College.

This is a message from Kimberly Miller: “Katelyn Paulson, Jasmine Erickson and Anthony Herrera exemplified true sportsmanship at their Culinary and Baking contests this past Friday. Each and every one of them went out of their way to help competitors from other schools that were struggling to finish their competition. I couldn't be prouder of these students for their caring and compassion not to mention that they also showed true grace and kindness under the pressure of intense competition.”

Jazmine Erickson also came home with the Silver medal.
