Fall Sports

HS Football

  1. Varsity record (0-1 league, 1-2 overall)
    1. Our first two home games have had impressive crowds.
    2. We gave state ranked Hockinson all they could handle this past Friday
  2. JV record (0-1 league, 0-2 overall).
    1. First game vs. Kalama was canceled due to poor air quality
  3. C Squad record (0-0 league, 0-1 overall)
    1. We don’t have enough kids for a full C squad but have scheduled 3 games to get some of our younger kids more playing time.
  4. 63 athletes are participating

HS Volleyball

  1. Varsity record (2-0 league, 3-1 overall).
    1. New head coach Danielle Hutton has our team looking sharp early on.
    2. Elyse Booker broke the all-time dig record this week – and she’s only a junior.
  2. JV record (3-0 league, 3-1 overall).
  3. JV2 record (1-0 league, 1-2 overall).
    1. We don’t have enough kids for a full 3rd team but there is a huge divide in abilities, so our two coaches have volunteered to do extra practice time (focusing on basic fundamentals) and coach 7 extra games for the girls with a limited skill set.
  4. 23 athletes are participating.

HS Girls’ Soccer

  1. Varsity record (0-3 league, 2-4 overall)
    1. It’s been a rough year so far, but if you’ve been to a game, you’ll see that this group plays hard and stays together as a team. They are showing growth and keep working to get better – that’s all we can ask.
  2. JV record (0-3 league, 2-4 overall)
  3. 31 athletes are participating.

HS Cross Country

  1. 23 athletes are participating
    1. We have our first home meet on Sep. 27
    2. Tuff Biddix placed 7th in the freshmen race at the Fort Steilacoom Invitational. This is the biggest meet in the state of Washington this year. McKenna Flanagan was 43rd in the Silver Division at the same meet.

HS Boys’ Golf

  1. Varsity record (0-0 league, 1-0 overall)
  2. 7 athletes are participating from the high school and 9 from the middle school
    1. We are in a rebuilding year. We lost our first match against Hockinson at home (more than likely nerves and the fact that this is a varsity team with 4 new players.). I expect we will continue to improve as the team is hard working and dedicated.HS Dance and Cheer
  3. Cheer has 11 fall participants
    1. Our squad went to an away camp in August at Great Wolf Lodge where they competed with other schools and their back to school routine was created at camp. This is the same routine they performed at the first home football game during halftime. At camp, this same routine earned them "Superior" ribbons. They also earned a 5th place trophy for our cheer and a 1st place trophy for most improved squad out of 13 teams there.
    2. At our 2nd home game, they put on a junior cheer clinic that week. They had 46 participants from preschool all the way through six grade that performed 3 cheers and a dance/stunt routine. It was a very successful week!
  4. Dance has 10 fall participants
    1. Dance has performed 4 times already this year including two halftime shows at the home football games, the back to school assembly, and at a pep assembly that the team put on, where they performed a routine with some of the football players. The team is now working on a veteran suicide awareness routine that they will be performing on Oct 6th. The team has reached out to veterans and their families that have suffered from ptsd and suicide. They have several veterans they are dancing in honor of from all over the country and in our community.

Other

  1. Remember that WHS Sports can be followed on Facebook (woodland high school athletics) and Twitter (whsbeavers).
  2. Our league also has a website: 2agshl.com
  3. Our fall captain training was well attended by captains from each fall sport.
    1. This training gives me the opportunity to build relationships with the team leaders of our programs. In addition, I share effective leadership strategies and tools with them – as well as stress the importance of them supporting their coach and their program by always putting the team first.
  4. Bricks for our stadium walkway are once again for sale. Go to this website for more information: http://www.thatsmybrick.com/whswa
  5. We will be having our first W Club meeting this month and will be selecting officers. The W Club is a club for all varsity letter winners that focuses on our athletes having a positive impact on our school culture as well as finding ways to increase school spirit and attendance/participation at athletic events.
