Monthly Update

October, 2011

The most significant activity taking place during the month of October at WIS was the revision of our Title 1 School Wide Plan. Our 11 member team spent two full days analyzing standards based assessment data in both reading and math, reviewing last year's goals, strategies and activities and revising strategies and activities to best address the needs of our current student population.

Student involved conferences took place on October 25th through October 27th.  Conferences were very well attended. WIS will be sending a conference survey home to parents. The objective of the survey will be to determine parent perceptions of our current conference format. Do parents prefer student involved conferences? Would parents prefer not to have students attend conferences? Would parents prefer to have teacher lead conferences? These are a few of the questions that we will be seeking parent feedback on.

Fifth grade classes had a successful field trip to the Ape Caves, Tale of Two Forests, and Mt. St. Helens.  Many parents commented on how well behaved, on task and positive the WIS students were throughout the trip.

Ms. Tsugawa, Ms. Cage, Ms. Malik and all of their students have participated in a fundraiser for the CAP program. Students raised over 100 dollars and volunteered many hours of school and community service. Jan Bohrnsen has been the primary representative from CAP that we have been working with.

Several staff members have are continuing a second year of work designing the implementation of a standards based grading system.

WIS students planted over 500 tulip bulbs in our flower beds over the last week. We can't wait to see them in the spring and summer.
