Re: March Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Monday’s: We will do a little of everything this month.  We will spend one Monday preparing our staff for the student led conference expectations, one Monday actually conducting student led conferences (3/26), and two Monday’s in professional Teams.  We did have a splinter group/committee working on Monday’s to help produce a good plan for next years later start.  We are hopeful our efforts will pay off with several more offerings during the zero period.

Other information:  We will be conducting student led conferences next week as well as the final senior culminating project presentations. Once again, we will be inviting parents for both events which is a great opportunity to engage with parents about their child’s academic progress at Woodland HS. Our CTE students and clubs have done quite well recently with students in SkillsUSA (culinary) and Floral all finding success at their state level competitions and we have several students advancing to state competitions.  Speaking of state competition, our dance team will be traveling to Yakima to compete in their state competition again this week.

More Information:  Our ASB Students have been meeting with Mr. Uhlenkott and I on a regular basis and one of the topics they have asked us to consider is to make the prom dances and Juniors and Senior only event.  They have several reasons and justifications for their request, but in the end, Mr. Uhlenkott and I do not support this request and have communicated this to the students. Our student leaders have been excellent to work with throughout the process.   Speaking of the schedule change for next year, we informed all of our students during the week of March 18-22.  We made a YouTube Video, which is located on the High School page, giving the students helpful information regarding why the change and a little more about the zero period idea. We also ran a survey out to the kids asking for their feedback regarding their interest level in coming early.  We will have the results soon.
