RE:                 WPS MONTHLY UPDATE

The pace of school always seems to pick up a notch or two as spring arrives and the end of the year comes into view.  This spring with economic events so clearly on everyone's mind, and the flu bug making its presence known in the northwest, the past month has truly been an exercise in "Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing!"

In no particular order, the following took place around school recently:

-Highly Capable Program took a special field trip to "Northwest Trek."  This was a fun, somewhat rain-soaked day.  Thank you to the host of parent volunteers who attended with their children!

-KG classes did walking trips to the Lilac Gardens.

-Teaching staff collaborated to identify areas of development needed to improve instruction and programs for next year.

-Accelerated Reader "points" were tabulated and a celebration of  successful reading was held by our library(we do 3-4 of these each schoolyear).

-Highly Capable and Title I program reviews began - these will each focus on how resources can be used to best serve student learning needs.

-Twice monthly Progress Monitoring was conducted by classroom teachers for Strategic and Intensive readers.  These are quick "dipstick" assessments which aid in monitoring student reading progress.

RE:                 YALE  SCHOOL MONTHLY UPDATE

Appreciation again this spring goes to staff at Yale for the collaborative approach in making sure WASL Testing was able to be conducted in an efficient and supportive manner at our school!  All 3rd, 4th and 5th graders spent a large chunk of two weeks in April being tested and the impact on daily school operations is significant.

Thank you ALL at Yale!

Students have begun the last FOSS Science Kits of the year and will be putting together projects and demonstrations to show the community in late May.  This is always a highlight of the schoolyear!

Did you know???

Weekly, Mr. John Huffman and Mrs. Julia Stoll support our instructional efforts by implementing PE and Art activities for students................this provides healthy activity for students and needed planning time for staff - YEA!!!
