School Improvement Plan
A year ago, our BLT (Building Leadership Team) decided to engage ESD112 to assist us in renewing accreditation. Accreditation isn’t actually required for public high schools since we are state approved and we have a lot of checks and balances in the system. The benefit of accreditation really is in having an external viewpoint and offering suggestions.
As a part of that effort, we sent out a school climate survey of our own. We have a very modest response rate to that survey, unfortunately, so any help you can give us in getting the word out would be great. Here’s the link:

This next Monday, our SIP team will be reviewing those responses and the responses for the district survey sent out last spring and developing our school improvement goals. You’ll hear more about that in October.
Recognition
We have a few new staff members at WHS, and I think they have all been doing a great job. I want to specifically celebrate our new Metals and Construction Trades teacher, Kyle Sharp, in this report. Within 2 or 3 days of the start of school, Kyle was in the hallways at lunch talking with kids. Within 4 or 5 days, he had kids after school in the shop working on their vehicles. I’ve attached a picture. Yesterday, at the beginning of 6th period (Kyle is a 0.8 teacher, so we don’t pay him to be on campus at that time), Kyle was escorting a couple of tardy students to class. More than one student has told me that Mr. Sharp is their favorite teacher. If you were able to be at last Friday’s football game, you saw the hot rod making laps. That was entirely Kyle’s doing. He’s doing a fantastic job!
Upcoming Events
The next big event at WHS is Homecoming. The game starts at 7 as usual (at home, of course) and the dance starts immediately afterwards. In case you want to join in the fun, the week’s dress-up Disney-based themes are:

Tuesday: Disney Duos (twin day)
Wednesday: Disney World Vacation
Thursday: Woody vs. Buzz or Cowboys (brown) vs. Aliens (green)
