RE: Woodland Middle School Board Report

School Improvement Plan

We are in the process of finalizing this year’s SIP, which we will present at an October Board Meeting. We are going to focus on our SBA scores, along with parent partnership.
Although we have room for growth, we are excited that we increased our State Test Scores in Math, ELA, and Science!

6th grade math scores and 5th grade science scores are at their highest level they have been according to the historical data we have!

As an AVID school, we use WICOR strategies. The O in WICOR stands for Organization, which is the main focus for our school year.

We are having all core subject areas use Interactive Notebooks (INBs) as a way to take notes during class. It is an organized way to take notes and for students to process information.
We are also having students keep their schoolwork in Binders so they can access it and go back to see what they have done throughout the semester.

Recognition

Parent partnership and community building

We have continued to work with the Senior Community Group on Wednesdays and Fridays. It is a fun partnership to have!
We are looking for ways to involve our families in the school. Examples include:

Planning for Grade Level ‘Showcase’ nights. We have an 8th grade Showcase night planned for December 17th where students will make gingerbread houses to sell to the community. This is a cross-curricular project that culminates in parents coming into the school to see all of the work their students have been doing!
We are having students keep their returned work in binders that go home every day. In addition to Google Classroom, we want parents to have an opportunity to see everything their kids are working on in school.
