RE: WHS Board Report
School Improvement Plan
You’ve heard a lot about our 9th grade on track rate. At the risk of repeating myself, WHS has bested the state average by about 20 percentage points over the past 3 years on that metric. Our struggle has been our 10th grade on track rate. 9th graders have benefitted a lot from the various things we have been doing to help them achieve in class, but our 10th graders have tended to lose track of those lessons learned. This spring we have prioritized 10th grade on track as the key focus of our MTSS efforts. The graph below shows that our 10th grade on track rate has improved from 67% to 80% over the past 6 weeks or so.
Recognition
Every year the amazing Michael Smith sends work from his advanced art students to the ESD 112 regional High School Art show. Here’s what Michael had to say:
Competing against a massive pool of talent from every school district under the ESD 112 umbrella, our students showcased not only technical mastery but profound storytelling and creative vision. Our students displayed an incredible range of mediums and voices this year. From intricate traditional techniques to bold contemporary concepts, their work reminds us of the power of art to connect and inspire.
This year, the work of 10 WHS students was selected for the SW Washington Regional Art Show. That competition showcases the very best student artwork in SW Washington. I’ve attached a few of the pieces here:
