RE: Yale Elementary Board Report

1) School Improvement Plan

Winter assessment data were collected in January and indicate great progress in reading and math toward our School Improvement Plan. In the area of math students in grades 1-4 have made at least 50% of their annual typical growth with 2nd and 4th already meeting 90% of their projected annual growth. Our reading growth has greatly improved! In the Fall, 52% of our students were below grade level, and Winter data showed 24% of students are below grade level. Our teachers and paraprofessionals are in constant communication about students growth, intervention plans and adjustments based on continual progress monitoring data. I am excited to see how Yale’s data looks at the end of the year compared to our School Improvement Plan.

2)  Recognition

LeAnne Thomas has gone above and beyond with continued education and it’s paying dividends for some of our students. A couple of years ago, LeAnne agreed to hours upon hours of training in the Barton Reading Intervention System. She is currently using this program with two students who struggle severely with reading. The Winter data indicates the first grade student’s ability to accurately match letters to sounds has improved from below to benchmark! The 4th grade student who has been well below grade level since first grade has improved his accuracy from below to benchmark and his fluency is only 25 words per minute shy of the 4th grade goal. So many students have made excellent progress, however these two students exhibit characteristics of Dyslexia and LeAnne is making a huge impact on their reading acquisition. I am incredibly proud of her effort and determination!

3) Upcoming Events

Yale 3rd and 4th graders just completed their Bike Safety Education course during their PE time. Shae Lindsay was trained at our ESD a couple of months ago. A trailer with bikes was delivered to Yale, and students learned about all the ways to stay safe while riding a bike. The monthly cougar lunch is coming up next week, it’s such a fun way to celebrate students in a positive way and they LOVE the Burgerville lunch they earn.
